What is a Nebulizer?

A nebulizer is a machine that’s used to deliver medication to the lungs. A nebulizer machine converts liquid medication into a mist, which can then be inhaled. Nebulizer medications help treat respiratory symptoms including reducing breathing passage inflammation, bronchial tube swelling, and the overproduction of mucus.

What is the difference between a nebulizer and inhaler?

The biggest difference is how the respiratory medicine is administered. A nebulizer uses electric- or battery-power to turn liquid medicine into a fine mist to be inhaled through a facial mask. Inhalers are designed small enough to fit in your hand and deliver medication through metered-dose by pushing out a spray of medicine or powdered form to be inhaled quickly and deeply. Talk with your doctor about which treatment option is right for you.

How much of the cost of my nebulizer will Medicare, Medicaid or my private insurance cover? Will I be responsible for any of the costs?

In many cases, our nebulizers are delivered at no cost to the patient. For those that do not have complete coverage, the co-pay is minimal. But you must complete the Insurance Qualification form to determine your exact coverage; an Aeroflow representative will follow up with you within five business days.

Does my nebulizer require a prescription? How do I get a prescription to Aeroflow?

Prescriptions are required for patients requesting nebulizer medications within the U.S. Aeroflow Healthcare makes this process very easy. From the time your request is placed, we handle all details regarding insurance verification. If you already have a prescription, you can send it to Aeroflow via fax or email.

What is the difference between the various nebulizer medications? How do I know which nebulizer medication is right for me?

While nebulizer medications provide similar results, there are slight differences in the products. For complete differences and recommendations as to what medication is best for you, please consult with your doctor.

How do I obtain my nebulizer using Medicare, Medicaid or my private insurance provider?

Simply complete the Qualify Through Insurance form and we will contact your insurance provider to determine your personal coverage. We will then contact you before moving forward.

How often do I need to use the nebulizer/take nebulizer medication?

The usage interval of your medications is based on personal needs. Consult with your doctor to determine the appropriate times to use your nebulizer medication.

How do I clean the nebulizer?

Cleaning and getting rid of germs prevent infection. Cleaning keeps the nebulizer from clogging up and helps it last longer. DO NOT put anything other than medication, sterile/distilled water, or vinegar solution in the medicine cup of the Nebulizer. Click here for tips on cleaning after each use, daily and monthly.

What is Trilogy?

Trilogy Ventilator is a  is a device that is designed to provide ventilator support for a wide variety of patient conditions. It can deliver support both invasively and non-invasively. It is designed to support both pediatrics and adults and can do so in most cases with the use of the passive circuit (same as a BiPAP circuit). The modes available are CPAP, S, ST, T, PC, PC-SIMV, AVAPS-AE, CV, AC, SIMV. It is designed with portability and ease of use in mind. With the only FDA approved solution for Mouth Piece Ventilation (sip & puff), Trilogy can be implemented when the other devices discussed above are not meeting the patient’s needs or the patient remains symptomatic on those devices.

What Type of Patient is Trilogy Right For?

The ideal Trilogy candidate is a patient with stage 2 and 3 COPD, also a history of repeat pulmonary admissions or non-compliance with BIPAP for COPD, and/or a patient currently on oxygen with CO2 retention.

How Can Trilogy Help Avoid Hospital Admissions?

With proven technology of trilogy and our clinical follow-up program by an Aeroflow Respiratory Therapist, Aeroflow can monitor patients more closely with daily or weekly home visits and follow up calls. Our Clinical Process to avoid hospital admissions includes:

  • Patient set up with Trilogy via mask and receive clinical education by a respiratory therapist
  • Respiratory Therapist will schedule a daily or weekly home visit to assess compliance and effectiveness with Trilogy; reports are faxed to the physician weekly to show compliance and documented notations by respiratory therapist
  • In addition to home visits, the respiratory therapist will also call the patient weekly to see how they are doing and if any pulmonary issues need to be addressed to the physician; if patient is having pulmonary difficulties, Aeroflow encourages the patient to be seen by physician to avoid a hospital admission if it can be treated by the practice

What Oxygen Equipment is Covered by Medicare?

Medicare covers rental oxygen equipment from durable medical equipment (DME) providers, like Aeroflow Healthcare. If you own your own equipment, Medicare will help pay for oxygen contents and supplies for the delivery of oxygen upon meeting Medicare conditions including doctor recommendation, failing arterial blood gas level range and other alternative measures have failed. Medicare helps pay for systems for furnishing oxygen, containers that store oxygen, tubing and related supplies for the delivery of oxygen and oxygen contents, and in some cases Medicare may also pay for a humidifier.
