National Sleep Awareness Week is April 23 – 29

National Sleep Awareness Week

In a world that seems to pride itself on how much we can get done in a day, there seems to be very little room for sleep. A good night’s rest helps us to recharge our bodies so that we can face the next day with focus and vigor. We want to celebrate Sleep Awareness Week with a look into how beneficial a good night of sleep can be for your health.

National Sleep Awareness Week is here!

We have all heard people brag about how they are powering through the day on as little sleep as possible, subsisting on several cups of coffee or a pastry from the snack machine. What these “overachievers” don’t realize is that they are doing their body more harm than good when they deny themselves the opportunity to get a good night’s rest.

If you are having trouble getting a good night’s rest, the best thing for you to do is to see your doctor or sleep specialist. Ask for a sleep study so that you can find out what is keeping you from sleeping well.

How Do I Know If I Have a Problem with Sleep?

There are several tell-tale signs that let you know that you are not getting the best sleep possible:

•    Forgetfulness
•    Poor performance at work or school
•    Trouble staying awake during the day
•    Lack of concentration
•    Feelings of depression

The list can go on. However what many people are suffering from is sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a common sleeping disorder where there are multiple pauses in breath while sleeping. This blocks the continuous flow of oxygen into your blood stream which can result in heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, and a whole host of other health problems. What is even more troubling is that many people are living with sleep apnea and are not aware of it.

Home Sleep Testing with Aeroflow

If you suspect that sleep apnea may be the cause of your poor quality sleep, then it is important to do a sleep test as soon as possible. You can do one with a sleep specialist in their facility, or you can choose to participate in a home sleep study provided by Aeroflow. We have a 24-hour customer service number in place to help answer any questions you may have while doing your sleep study at home.

Aeroflow also provides a number of helpful videos that help you to see how to put on your home sleep testing device correctly. The study requires 4 to 6 hours of data to help our sleep specialists determine your needs after the study. Once you have that information, you can also discuss treatment options available to you.

National Sleep Awareness Week reminds us of the importance a good night’s rest plays in our lives. If you are concerned about having the best health possible, then you want to do what you can to ensure that you are getting quality sleep.
