Any job that is coined the ‘World’s Toughest Job’ clearly is not for the faint of heart. I cannot claim to have ever held such a job, however, I know many who have, and so have you. I digress, the other day I was sent a link to a view dubbed ‘World’s Toughest Job Interview’ and my first impression was the video would chronicle a ridiculously difficult interview. It was quite the opposite, actually. A handful of hopeful candidates were interviewing via Skype for a “Director of Operations” job, so you see, the job is difficult as opposed to the actual interview.
Okay, so maybe it was just me that got a little turned around by the title, and I know so far I haven’t done the best job selling you on the fact you should go watch this video. I promise I will do better, just give me a few more lines. Or, if you’re really trusting, go ahead and watch the World’s Toughest Job Interview without reading any further.
For those of you who are still with me, if you do not wish for me to spoil the surprise, DO NOT READ ANYMORE! Go join the trusting folks up there and just watch the video!
The World’s Toughest Job Interview video opens with a disclaimer:
“WE CREATED A FAKE JOB AND POSTED IT ONLINE AND IN THE NEWSPAPERS. THEN WE HELD REAL INTERVIEWS.”
I don’t know about you but I am immediately intrigued. Below is the summary of the responsibilities of the World’s Toughest Job along with the candidates’ reactions:
- Candidate must be able to be on their feet and exerting themselves 24/7
The eager candidates swiftly changed their demeanor and made comments such as “That’s a lot” and “Is that even legal?”.
- They prefer a candidate with a background in medicine, finance and the culinary arts, as well as someone with good negotiating skills
This statement was met with looks of befuddlement because who has such credentials?!
- The candidate will not be able to take vacations and their workload actually increases on holidays
The candidates refer to this as “cruel” and a “sick and twisted joke”
- The candidate will be expected to work 365 days a year and the position will pay nothing
At this point of the interview, the candidates are shocked at how ridiculous the demands are and have given their final statements ranging from the “inhumane” nature of the job to how “insane” the demands are.
Okay, so at this point I’m wondering where in the world this guy is going with these questions. However, if you really think about it, who has responsibilities like the mentioned above? Why, mothers, of course! Moms are constantly on their feet exerting themselves, they never get vacations, the job has no monetary benefits and they are masters of medicine, finance, and culinary needs. This video does a wonderful job at highlighting why being a mother is the toughest job (but most rewarding!) and it makes you think about your own mother. Now, go and watch the heart warming video of the World’s Toughest Job Interview; I dare you not to call your mother after and give her a big ‘Thank You!’
