Sleep Apnea Facial Exercises

Sleep Apnea can be a troublesome beast. The most effective and common cure is using CPAP Therapy. However, there are other some natural tips that may help reduce some of the symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Like many other physical injuries or ailments, OSA in part, is caused by your muscles needing a bit of help.

As we mentioned, CPAP Therapy is the most effective way to treat sleep apnea, but in general, even 20 minutes of cardio vascular exercise 5 times a week can increase your heart and lung strength. It can also help you with weight management, which is another vital part of helping to manage sleep apnea.

To take the workout wrinkle a bit further, there are in fact exercises that can be done with the specific muscle groups that affect sleep apnea. Here are some that may help! You may want to practice these alone, however.

Facial Exercises:

The facial muscles can help lay the foundation for healthy breathing. To start, open your mouth as wide as you can, and then close it tightly and repeat for a few repetitions.

Follow this up by pursing your lips as if you are going to kiss someone then retract the kiss and make a big smile holding it for 5-10 seconds. Again, repeat this for a few reps.

Soft Palate

A good way to exercise your soft palate is to practice enunciating your vowels. Doing them fast and repeating the same sound over and over again helps to each your soft palate how to be strong and have stamina, too.

You can do something as simple as sing out, “A-E-I-O-U” very loudly. Or something more complex such as repeating vowel sounds over and over with a different consonant attached to them as fast as you can.

Though these are just a few tips, combining CPAP Treatment, regular exercise, a healthy diet, and mouth exercises can help to reduce your sleep apnea symptoms.
