The facial muscles can help lay the foundation for healthy breathing. To start, open your mouth as wide as you can, and then close it tightly and repeat for a few repetitions.
Follow this up by pursing your lips as if you are going to kiss someone then retract the kiss and make a big smile holding it for 5-10 seconds. Again, repeat this for a few reps.
A good way to exercise your soft palate is to practice enunciating your vowels. Doing them fast and repeating the same sound over and over again helps to each your soft palate how to be strong and have stamina, too.
You can do something as simple as sing out, “A-E-I-O-U” very loudly. Or something more complex such as repeating vowel sounds over and over with a different consonant attached to them as fast as you can.
